For a decade Safe In India (SII) has been assiduously tracking the number of accidents in the supply chains of major auto brands and lobbying for worker rights and safe shopfloors. So, has India’s mighty auto sector become safer for workers?
SII’s eighth CRUSHED report indicates that policies are improving. The downside is that implementation is slow and halting so it’s not having an impact on the lives of workers. They still suffer crush injuries on the shopfloor, losing one or two fingers on average. The upside is that a few positive trends have emerged.
