JUTE has a rough and ready reputation, having long been used for sacks and ropes. But there is more to the use of the durable fibre. It can be turned into fabric, crafts can be made out of it. But that is not all — jute leaf is a  delicacy in Bengali cuisine. 

Jute also has a historic association with Bengal where it has been grown and processed in mills set up during British colonial rule. And so to celebrate  its versatility,  The Burlap People, a sustainable lifestyle brand steeped in jute heritage, and Amar Khamar, Kolkata’s famed lunchroom, came together to talk about the story of jute over an especially curated meal, Pat on Your Plate. Pat in Bengali is the jute leaf  and it was the star attraction embedded in every tasty dish.
