People living in the border districts of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) not only bear the brunt of cross-border shelling, they have to be extremely careful where they walk. The Line of Control (LoC) is still infested with landmines. You can lose your life or become permanently disabled if you accidentally step on one.

The landmines were placed along the LoC and the international border in the early 1990s when militancy was at its peak. The security forces planted these deadly objects to foil Pakistan’s attempts to sneak in militants from across the border.
